Hyundai Hwarang is displaying 30 of Ahn Young-il's Water series, a delicate yet powerful collection which, till today, is in the making since its inception in the 1990's. Considered a contemporary masterwork in the Los Angeles' art circles, the series is consisted with an abstraction of the interaction between light, water and fog of the ocean.
Ahn has been based in Los Angeles since 1966 and is the first Korean artist (as well as first Korean-American artist) to have exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. With a unique technique using a palette knife to dab paint on the canvass, he has been expressing intensity and vastness in subtle images for more than two decades now.
