If you are a fan of conceptual art, you probably already know that on July 1970, John Baldessari “cremated” all his paintings from the previous 13 years at a mortuary in San Diego. But did you know that the purpose of the “Cremation Project” was not only to fulfill a concept, but out of a practical need to make a big move to LA, to take a new job as a professor at Cal Arts? At PKM Gallery, the artist’s mysteriously cropped images and painterly collages will be on view through Jul 12.
