There have been many fun events held at Yeouido’s Han River Park this past summer: concerts, the Hangang Summer Festival, the Electrodash… but perhaps with the changing of seasons, it’s a good time to partake in something not just fun, but also meaningful. With Korea having one of the highest suicide rates in the world, it’s not unusual to meet a local who’s lost someone or someone who struggles with suicide. Sponsored by the Korean Association of Suicide Prevention, “Love Life While Walking Overnight” is a yearly event with walks held in several cities all over the country, including Incheon, Suwon, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon and Seoul. At the events, there are campaigns to raise awareness, free hugs, concerts, games and walking with candles or lanterns in memory of those who have been lost. Participants are encouraged to write messages of love and encouragement to friends, family and neighbors who might be going through a difficult time at the moment. Come take a walk and be a part of the community.
