The best hotels in Tenerife for 2025: five-star luxury, family-friendly stays and more

Find everything from all-inclusives to luxury resorts on our ultimate guide – reviewed by travel experts

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands – just pipping Fuerteventura to the post – and is firmly established as a magnet for tourists, especially the Brits. Most travellers gravitate to the south, with a favourite being Playa de las Américas, the top draw for night owls and home to some mammoth resorts.

But the northern part of the island has gained steam as an alternative destination with more rustic offerings. A concerted government effort to maintain high tourism standards has resulted in an array of hotel offerings running the gamut, from the party hearty to the placid. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly, grown-up luxury or an all-inclusive resort, here are our picks of the best hotels in Tenerife.

Just north of the throngs of beachgoers and sunseekers on Tenerife’s southwestern coast, this striking clifftop hotel has been a go-to for blissed-out poolside luxury, complemented by golf and high-end dining, since 2005. Its signature salmon-coloured buildings and palatial Moroccan-style architecture make it one of the most recognisable properties in the Ritz-Carlton portfolio – and rightly so, as this place is stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous.

This is a Ritz hotel, so you can expect unadulterated luxury. The newly opened Retreat consists of four rows of private ‘casitas’, organised by lanes that meander through the eucalyptus trees and subtropical plants of the resort’s sloping lower gardens. We stayed in an adults-only strip of suites, in a clean, bright room finished with rust-hued furnishings, hanging bulbs, and a spacious his-and-hers bathroom. Sliding glass doors lead out to a long, winding pool to spend long, languid days. A high staff-to-guest ratio means you’ll be wanting for absolutely nothing; there are around 1,000 employees waiting hand and foot across the resort. The people who work here are exceptionally helpful, but not cloyingly so; the best of all worlds.

This place has a lot to show off about, but its myriad of exceptional dining options are by far its greatest draw. Akira Back, the only hotel in Spain named after its Michelin-awarded chef, is the show-stopper —a moody underground restaurant famous for its 13-course Japanese menu, which features impeccably presented small plates of sashimi, red king prawn, beef cheek, and more. Breakfast in ‘the club’, reserved for Retreat guests, is a classy affair, featuring low jazz music, heaters, and views overlooking the Atlantic. To top it all off, there are seven freshwater pools, from the large Lagoon Pool to the tucked-away Persian Garden Pool, plus an 18-hole golf course, a tennis academy, shops, a state-of-the-art gym and an enormous spa with several treatment rooms and a wellness circuit.

Time Out tip: There are many stylish touches to celebrate here; a highlight is the beautifully designed hotel magazine, full of interesting deep-dives into Tenerife’s art, culture and food.

Address; Calle María Zambrano 2, Carretera General, TF-47, Km 9, 38687, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: Fluctuates depending on season; standard rooms average at around £280 per night

Palacio de Isora isn’t your typical hotel: you’ll need time (and a map) to explore all its corners, restaurants and activities. This vast Gran Meliá resort is designed for every kind of traveller – families, couples, and those after something more exclusive in the Red Level area – and it’s set in one of the quietest, most beautiful parts of southern Tenerife, with views of the ocean and Mount Teide.

Finding peace in Tenerife’s busy south isn’t easy, but here it’s possible. Palacio de Isora balances family areas with adults-only zones, offering more than a dozen bars and restaurants, nightly shows, an activities programme for kids and adults, and six pools including Europe’s longest saltwater pool. You can even go all-inclusive, a rarity in Tenerife. There are around 600 rooms here, and all are generally spacious, bright and comfortable, all with terraces; some add jacuzzis and ocean views. Families tend to cluster around the kids’ pools, while Red Level guests get a boutique-style section with private spaces and a dedicated concierge.

Food is another highlight, with La Terrasse by chef Jorge Peñate’s as the crowning jewel, but another eight restaurants to choose from too. Re Level guests also get an à la carte breakfast on a terrace. Service is warm and attentive throughout, from check-in to restaurant staff, entertainment teams and bartenders. Despite hosting over 1,000 guests, the hotel still feels personal. The location is another big plus: Guía de Isora is peaceful, with black-sand beaches and natural pools nearby, a short walk to Alcalá, and close to Los Gigantes cliffs.

Time Out tip: Unlike most other hotels in Tenerife, Gran Melia Palacio de Isora offers an all-inclusive option.

Address: Av. de Los Océanos, 38686 Alcalá, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: From €200 per night. Red Level from €320

If you have a window seat on the right side of the plane as it lands at Tenerife South Airport, it’s impossible to miss the terracotta labyrinth of the Barceló Tenerife. This massive, 272-room hotel feels like a small town, with low buildings clustered around plant-filled courtyards and a river-like pool snaking through its centre. There are restaurants and bars, hairdressers and shops, a nightclub, a volleyball court, a climbing wall, a lake, and even an on-site environmental reserve. In other words, there’s everything you could possibly need here from an all-inclusive – and then some.

The 272 rooms here range from poolside doubles and spacious family suites to sea-facing ‘Royal Level’ rooms. Decor is refreshingly simple, matching the shapes and colours of the exterior – earthy browns, beiges and clean whites, with exposed hydrotherapy bathtubs and hanging steel lamps. You have all the mod cons and luxuries of any above-par hotel, including a massive TV, a coffee machine and a suite of Rituals toiletries.

Drago Buffet Restaurant serves as the main dining space for guests and, as such, you can expect it to be busy at peak breakfast and lunch hours. It’s an above-decent hotel buffet, with a bit of everything for everyone, including a stacked dessert station at dinner and made-to-order omelettes, pancakes and the like at breakfast. Royal Level guests have access to their own calm little buffet space with a separate menu. Two à la carte restaurants – the Tuscan-inspired La Dolce Vita Trattoria and Spanish rice restaurant Arrazonte – offer a fancier dining experience. By far the hotel’s best (non-culinary) offering is its guided tours of the San Blas Environmental Reserve, exclusive to hotel guests, where you can get to know the island’s volcanic landscape and watch out for local birdlife.

Time Out tip: Early sleepers should take heed that the evening entertainment space is quite literally right under your nose here – prepare to be kept awake by ‘Sweet Caroline’ sing-alongs.

Address: Avenida de Greñamora, Urbanización San Blas, 1, 38639 Oasis del Sur, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

4. JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Located in beautifully refined Costa Adeje (in its Golden Mile, no less), the JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar is a 5-star luxury hotel that lives up to that billing and then some. The 124-room beachfront hotel should definitely be on the radar of couples and other mature travellers who are looking for relaxed dinners over raucous nightclubbing. Guests must be aged 16 or older, but the atmosphere is more chilled out than at other spots. Nothing has been left to chance with the interiors, with many locally-inspired flourishes dotted all around, and the hotel carries an undeniable romantic air. There are even personalised butler and concierge services for something a little out of the ordinary (only available in the Star Prestige world). Each room is essentially a suite, so don’t expect budget prices. After all, you pay for what you get.

The hotel grounds keep the momentum going, and the complex isn’t far away from the Spanish villa most of us conjure up in our imaginations. There are palm trees dotted around the sweeping pool, juxtaposing beautifully with the colonial-era architecture that transports guests to a different time. The aesthetics are old-fashioned, but the facilities are just about as modern as you’re going to find, particularly in the wellness world. The spa is spectacular, a vast area bathed in natural light and packed with hydrodynamic pools, jacuzzis, steam baths, cold wells, and all the rest. Time in the spa is a must.

El Cenador takes care of El Mirador’s gastronomic offerings, a gourmet restaurant with attentive staff and tasting menus to savour. There is also a vegan tasting menu, music to the ears of some, and a delightful selection of sides produced in the hotel’s orchard. Note that the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday, although there’s every chance this will change in the future.

Time Out tip: As ever, it goes without saying, but pay those extra euros for a room with a sea-view. There’s no better way to wake up.

Address: Av. de Bruselas, s/n, 38660 Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £267 per night based on two people sharing (breakfast included)

5. Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

To truly get away from it all, make a beeline for the tranquil surroundings of the Hotel Botanico and its sumptuous Oriental Spa Garden, where all guests aged 16 and over get unlimited spa access during their stay. The premium penthouse and ambassador (or senator) suites are every bit as opulent as you assume, but there is plenty to love in the (relatively speaking) more down-to-earth deluxe and superior deluxe options. Some rooms come with views of the hotel’s gorgeous gardens, while others offer vistas of the imposing Mount Teide, the highest point in the Canary Islands. Others have ocean views that live up to the billing, and there are also family options with connecting rooms for groups.

The Hotel Botanico offers a variety of room options, and there are equally numerous choices for food and drink. The hotel has an impressive six restaurants and bars, covering everything from classic Spanish at La Parrilla to Asian cuisine at The Oriental, Mediterranean standards at Il Pappagallo, and chunk steaks at Brunelli’s. The Hall Bar is a tremendous spot for a stiff drink, soundtracked by achingly impactful piano music. If you find yourself a little peckish or parched at Hotel Botanico, you’re in for a treat.

As the name suggests, the spa offer at Hotel Botanico is arguably the star of the show. The Oriental Spa Garden is an award-winning complex that stretches across subtropical greenery, with around 30 highly-skilled professionals ready and waiting to take the stresses of the modern world off your shoulders. A broad range of massages is available, and the spa’s meticulously arranged rituals will have you feeling your best. Throw in some spectacular beauty treatments and three pools that each offer something special, and you’ve got a real bucket list experience.

Time Out tip: If you’re heading this way on a romantic trip, the Golden Dragon Ritual is a must.

Address: Calle Richard J. Yeoward, 1, 38400 Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £261 per night based on two people sharing (breakfast included)

6. La Laguna Gran Hotel

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Book in advance to get some serious bang for your buck in this crash pad housed in a building that dates back to 1776 in historic La Laguna. Even the farmhouse-meets-greenhouse lobby atrium is a draw. The long and storied history of the building is one of its main charms, a past packed with secret meetings that is embraced and celebrated at every turn. It might be a hotel today, but this place has multiple strings to its bow. The hotel houses 123 rooms (eight of which are luxurious suites), each intricately arranged with complimentary colours, eco-friendly amenities, and modern conveniences.

Head to the rooftop for something seriously special. If you’re looking to cool off while absorbing some impressive bird’s-eye views of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the 22-metre rooftop swimming pool and solarium should do the job. If you prefer to get a sweat on before relaxing, the fully equipped gym has fantastic cardio equipment and plenty of free weights. There’s no need to miss a workout here, and the views are motivation enough to hit new heights. The hotel is particularly bike-friendly, with a tremendous bike storage area complete with battery-charging facilities.

Restaurant Verodes is the hotel’s in-house culinary option, located in a sumptuous spot with a vertical garden and a classic collection of dishes. Breakfast is also served in this delightful setting, the perfect way to start the perfect day in La Laguna. The on-site coffee shop serves a refreshingly strong espresso (and equally strong cocktails), but the hotel’s wine bar might just be the jewel in its crown. Open to guests and visitors, the bar offers wines by the glass, accompanied by snacks, preserves, and more. You can also purchase bottles to take home as souvenirs. Or to drink, obviously, the choice is yours. There are frequent wine and cheese tastings, so keep an eye on the social media calendar for news of those.

Time Out tip: Daily menu options are a fantastic way to get more bang for your buck.

Address: C. Nava y Grimon, 18, 38201 La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £134 per night based on two people sharing (breakfast included)

7. Hotel Suite Villa Maria

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Despite encroaching development, the petite enclave of La Caleta remains at a comfortable distance from the hubbub of more established tourist draws and should appeal to nature lovers. Hotel Suite Villa Maria doubles down on serenity with a focus on private villas, many of them equipped with their own jacuzzis and small pools. The 78 villas aren’t short on modern conveniences, featuring everything from pillow menus, balconies, dressing tables, and sunbeds to glass-ceramic hobs, coffee makers, private gardens, and some truly sumptuous sea views. Think of this as your own private paradise in a beautiful part of the world, designed by Tenerife architect Antonio del Pozo.

Guests rave about the cleanliness of both the private and public facilities, which include three pools, one of which is reserved for children. Their restaurant, La Torre, maintains a strict focus on Canarian cuisine for those seeking authenticity. The inspiration for almost everything on the menu is found in the surrounding areas, with traditional recipes lovingly created by a supremely talented team in the kitchen. Guests seeking a more relaxed atmosphere should spend time at the Blue Oasis Pool Bar, a fitting moniker for a slice of paradise. After all, finger food is the best way to fuel yourself ahead of a long day of sunbathing by the pool, right?

Hotel Suite Villa Maria does a fabulous job of balancing environmental responsibility with luxury, providing a sustainable experience at its core. The 5-star establishment recognises its exceptional location and collaborates closely with environmentally friendly companies, supporting local initiatives at every opportunity. The wellness centre is a case in point, where all the products are natural, organic, and vegan-friendly. You won’t see any plastic in these parts, that’s for sure, and the delicious dishes are made (for the most part) from locally-sourced ingredients. Two thumbs up.

Time Out tip: All of the villas are delightful, but there is something about a hydromassage bathtub that really hits the spot.

Address: Av. de los Acantilados, 38679 Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £227 per night, based on two people sharing.

8. Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Fancy a spot of fantasy? Book a room at Bahia Principe's Fantasia Tenerife. This dreamlike resort will thrill kids and big kids alike. Rooms are classy and decked in neutral tones, unless of course, you plump for a room in the castle, which is unsurprisingly full of eccentric patterns, shapes and colours. Yes, you read that right, so book a room in the castle and live like royalty for a night or three. If staying in the castle doesn’t sound like your vibe, you can’t go wrong with the more standard options, and the standard superior room is one of the best value accommodation options in Tenerife.

A plethora of pools (some with slides) surround the Disney-like castle, which towers over the ocean. There are five restaurants, boasting Italian, Japanese, and steak, plus international fare, in the fun-fuelled Dreams Fair beside the pool, which is dressed with candy cane pillars and transforms into a circus at night, featuring fairground stalls and toffee apples. The buffet is an excellent option for enjoying some informal eats before returning to the pool. If you’re looking for somewhere to fuel up in the evening, Fantasia Tenerife has three bars covering all the bases. You’ve got a sports bar, a classy cocktail bar in the lobby, and an infinity bar for sipping with sunset views.

As you might expect from a high-quality resort, there are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained and engaged, no matter their age. There are kids' and teens' clubs for younger guests, fitness facilities and sports to work up a sweat, and an excellent spa to find peace in the midst of the madness. The staff on hand are always happy to help organise little excursions in the area, the cherry on top of a delicious cake. But that castle, that’s something else.

Time Out tip: If you thought we were going to put anything other than the castle here, we don’t know what to say.

Price: From £108 per night, based on two people sharing

9. Europe Villa Cortes GL

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Despite being situated in the bustling Playa de las Américas, amenities such as a private beach, secluded tennis courts, a heated pool, and a subterranean piano bar lend a luxurious touch to this Mexican-themed hotel. As the name suggests, the hotel is something of an homage to 16th-century conquistador Hernán Cortés, albeit an homage packed with modern flourishes and conveniences. There are a whopping 151 rooms in the hotel, ranging from standard rooms to the impressive Hernán Cortés Presidential Suite, a huge accommodation in the heart of the hotel with stunning ocean views and unbeatable luxury. It costs, of course, but it is worth it.

In addition to luxurious suites and comfortable rooms, the Europe Villa Cortes GL offers a range of amenities to keep guests entertained during their stay. Make sure to try a cocktail at Chiringuito as you admire the ocean, take a culinary journey through the six restaurants or simply kick back in rooms noted for their spaciousness and, in some cases, ample balconies. Quirky charms include Brauhaus, a pleasantly incongruous Bavarian beer hall, and Mexican artworks dispersed throughout. The undoubted highlight is the Michelin-approved Taste 1973, a stunning restaurant focused on creating emotions over recipes. Their words, not ours.

As expected, several health and beauty treatments are available in the wellness area, the perfect place to bring your body back into balance. If you prefer knocking it about, the gym is equipped with modern machines to get the heart rate up. If you’re craving crowds, you can step outside and enjoy offerings from the Golden Mile, although this is definitely the sort of place for peace, tranquillity, and serenity. There is also tennis, cosy patios, pools, and some of the best sunsets you’ll ever see.

Time Out tip: The restaurants open alternately depending on occupancy, with the intention of getting guests to try all the options.

Address: Av. Rafael Puig Lluvina, 38, 38660 Playa de la Américas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £210 per night based on two people sharing (breakfast included)

10. Hotel San Roque

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

The rust-toned exterior of the adults-only Hotel San Roque catches the eye, but design buffs will really dig the spiffy furniture courtesy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and other masters. The 20 chic rooms painted in soothing reds and blues ring a lovely courtyard, featuring a pool that you can dine alongside in the evenings. There’s a jacuzzi in every room, which should really be all you need to know. The Suite de la Torre is obviously the shining jewel of the hotel, but don’t overlook the simple charms of the more standard options. Nothing has been left to chance, and there really is tranquillity around every corner in the Hotel San Roque.

The hotel is a labour of love, one started in 1992 when a family set about restoring an 18th-century stately house to its previous glories. The work took four years, and the Hotel San Roque has gone from strength to strength ever since, establishing itself as one of the most popular hotels in Tenerife. It isn’t difficult to understand why, and a location in charming and historic Garachico offers convenient canoeing, fishing, and diving options at an additional fee. The special wellness getaway for two people is a beautifully romantic experience, allowing couples to relax in gorgeous surroundings in the capable hands of professional therapists. The getaway costs €295 per person, but comes with a broad range of special perks and an extremely relaxed check-out. If you’re looking for a romantic excursion in Tenerife, look no further.

The Anturium Restaurant takes care of the gastronomy side of things, offering fine dining in a delightful setting. The menu draws inspiration from its surroundings, offering a striking blend of classic Canary Island dishes and innovative creations. Chef José Ángel Hernández has received Michelin recognition, and it only takes one bite to understand why.

Time Out tip: The coffee here is a standout, should you need any more incentive to get out of bed.

Address: C. Esteban de Ponte, 31, 38450 Garachico, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £205 per night based on two people sharing (breakfast included)

11. Bahia del Duque

An opulent choice in stylish Adeje, Bahia del Duque achieves a lagoon-like vibe with its bountiful outdoor pool space – you’ll count a whopping five swimming holes – and flora covering the grounds built into an alluring hillside. Should your older kids get bored, there’s not only a teen lounge in the complex, but a short drive away, you'll hit the wildly popular Siam Park, an over-the-top, Thai-themed water slide Mecca. The hotel itself has a vast array of rooms available, ranging from deluxe rooms to suites and beyond, with the new Imelda suite standing out. How could it not? Imelda comes with two terraces, a private jacuzzi, and all the natural light one could need. The deluxe rooms more than hold their own, so don’t be too upset if you can’t snag a spot in the spectacular suite.

Juan Miguel Cabrera oversees the culinary network at Bahia del Duque, covering eight restaurants in total. There is a lot to like at every stop, from pure gastronomic joy at Nub to contemporary Japanese at Kensei, Gallic food at La Brasserie (helmed by two-Michelin Star chef Pierre Résimont), and all the rest. The Beach Club is a delightful way to enjoy light bites with stunning ocean views, and Gastro Lounge Las Villas offers more of the same, complete with added live music. You won’t go hungry or thirsty when staying at Bahia del Duque.

The hotel also has an excellent wellness program, headlined by a unique outdoor thalassotherapy circuit hidden within lush greenery. It is a gorgeously romantic setting, one guaranteed to provide serenity for the spirit. If you aren’t entirely sure what treatment you want, have a chat with the spa’s wellbeing advisors and get ready for the magic. Physiotherapy is also available, and the gym doesn’t let the side down.

Time Out tip: The Imelda suite is spectacular, but the deluxe rooms here would sit much higher up on the pyramid anywhere else in the world. You’ve won, regardless of which room you choose.

Address: Av. de Bruselas, s/n, 38660 Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £272 per night based on two people sharing

12. MC San Agustín

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

You don’t get much more boutique than this. With just four suites in an 18th-century structure, this is the ideal lodging for value-minded travellers wary of Tenerife’s more extravagant offerings. What’s more, it’s located in La Laguna, the former capital of Tenerife, which now holds cachet among history buffs as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby sights to explore include the 516-year-old Iglesia de la Concepción (Basilica of the Immaculate Conception) and the serene Plaza del Adelantado. Students from the University of La Laguna ensure that a youthful energy remains among the classic hits.

The entrance to the small but perfectly formed spot is located on Calle San Agustin, one of the most historic streets in Tenerife, and the ideal place to get your bearings. The rooms are surprisingly spacious, packed with modern conveniences and charm, managing to offer an intimate stay that doesn’t skimp on space. The beds are fabulously comfortable, and the hotel’s location means you are never far from the heart of the action.

The building was neglected for a long time before being resurrected in 2007 via the Casa Emblemática project. It took some time (five years, to be exact), but you can’t rush something like this. The end result speaks for itself, a gorgeous homage to history that provides travellers with an affordable night’s rest in the heart of town. The restoration did a remarkable job at retaining much of the building’s original character and has become an elite-level accommodation option in Tenerife. The only 5-star hotel in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, MC San Agustín is the go-to spot for tourists more interested in the island’s heritage than its hard partying.

Time Out tip: This is a fantastic option for groups, and booking out the entire hotel is the perfect way to make the most of a team trip to Tenerife.

13. Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

It may be a hike from Tenerife’s nightlife and dining hubs, but the Hard Rock is really a small city unto itself, with a kinetic rhythm (set to a ubiquitous musical soundtrack, of course) that will keep guests and revellers humming. Families will likely opt for the Oasis Tower, while singles looking for a more heavy metal holiday will (maybe) sleep in the Nirvana Tower before hitting up a daytime Lagoon Party. There are 365 rooms and 259 exclusive suites available here, all with humongous beds, world-class amenities, floral flourishes, and an undeniable sense of confidence. The Rock Star Suite is the obvious headliner, a massive space with stunning ocean views and exclusive butler service. Rock star royalty, indeed.

There are 11 restaurant and bar options, but The 16th rooftop bar, with its panoramic vistas, is the one most likely to have visitors rising to their feet and demanding an encore. Le Petit Chef might just be the best of the culinary options, although you’ll find plenty to devour in every restaurant here. Sports fans should make a beeline for the 3rd Half sports bar just before kick-off, and the Constant Grind Coffee Shop and Bar serves one of the best espressos going.

Without meaning to continue the theme, all that rock star living will surely leave you in need of a moment or two of calm and recuperation. Luckily, the Hard Rock Hotel has excellent wellness facilities for mind, body, and spirit, although we won’t go as far as saying it is the perfect way to get your body back in tune. There are only so many rock band puns, you know? The hotel also hosts gigs throughout the year, with international bands making a beeline for the venue.

Time Out tip: If it fits the budget, the all-inclusive plan is arguably the best way to experience the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife.

Address: Avenida Adeje 300 300, Av. Playa Paraiso, s/n, 38678 Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £191 per night based on two people sharing

14. La Casona del Patio

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

If you spend your year fidgeting in anticipation of the Tour de France, pedal fast to La Casona’s old-world yet comfortable digs in a pastoral setting. This spot caters to active types who don’t consider a holiday an excuse to stray from their fitness routines. The neighbouring Teide National Park offers an embarrassment of hiking and biking options. The hotel is a waking dream for serious cyclists, featuring a conditioning room, a bike washing area, and a rental service that leases out Cannondales, Treks, and Pinarellos. There’s even an option to follow a cycler’s diet if you eat at the hotel.

That is just the tip of this exciting iceberg. Advanced hikers should consider one of the hotel’s trekking excursions, challenging adventures that take guests down roads and paths in search of volcanoes and history. There is also cross-training, yoga,  and a co-working space if you need to get some work done in between all the sweating.

All that is good and well, but what about the rooms? This is a hotel, after all. While not being as flashy as some of the more luxurious options around Tenerife, there is plenty to like regarding the accommodation side of La Casona del Patio. The executive room features traditional Canary Island touches, such as wooden ceilings, and a sizable bathroom that leaves guests plenty of space to get themselves ready for the day. The standard rooms are charming spaces, defined by bright colours and plenty of modern conveniences, the perfect place to rest and recuperate after a two-day trek to a dormant volcano. Tenerife has plenty of 5-star luxury resorts, but there is a lot to be said for getting those fingernails a little dirty. La Casona del Patio is the place to do just that.

Time Out tip: The Standard + rooms offer all the conveniences and charms of the standard rooms, but are located on the top floor. It is worth the extra expense.

Address: Av. de La Iglesia, 68, 38690 Santiago del Teide, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Price: £82 per night based on two people sharing
