Sanjaya Geekiyanage graduated from the University of Visual and Performing Arts majoring in Sculpture. After he realized everyone sculpted in iron, he switched to copper. He started by reading piles of books related to science to educate himself about copper and how to evoke different colors from it.
Sanjaya says most of his work is based on Magical Realism, as he perceives the world to be aesthetically perfect. For him sculpture needs to represent nature beautifully as well as intricately.
