Second Screen Cult Cinema says

A “March Madness” matchup we can definitely get behind: Bette Davis vs. Joan Crawford in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. Second Screen Cult Cinema – awarded Tampa Bay’s “Best Movie Series” – is officially one year old, and we’re still screening unconventional, underappreciated and unforgettable films in Tampa Bay. Join us Wednesday, March 9, at The Vault in downtown Tampa for a rare chance to see this campy crowd-pleaser on the big screen!

The film centers around former vaudevillian star (Davis), who maliciously holds her disabled sister (Crawford) captive in a perfectly creepy, old Hollywood mansion. The film holds the distinction of receiving five Academy Award nominations (winning one) and creating the bizarre “hag-horror” subgenre.

Baby Jane is especially interesting due to the epic off-screen feud between Davis and Crawford. The actresses LOATHED each other. After the film’s release in 1962, both Davis and Crawford confirmed tales of ego-driven squabbles, backstabbing and intentional Oscar snubs.

The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, curated music, craft cocktails, and food available for purchase. The film will start at 7 p.m. Assemble your crew and come hang with us, and stay after the credits roll for a group discussion about the film.
