Dutch artist and designer Frederik Molenschot is bringing his ongoing ‘Bridge’ series to Japan and Shibuya’s Ultrasupernew Kura gallery from November 3 to November 8. Inspired by the structural rhythms and geometric frameworks of actual bridges spanning the Dutch landscape, Molenschot developed his lattice-like ‘Bridge Pattern’, which he translates into different materials, scales and forms.
The exhibition builds on Bridge Man, Molenschot’s large-scale outdoor sculpture permanently installed at Rosewood Miyakojima. Alongside bronze pieces such as tables featuring the Bridge Pattern, visitors can expect to see Flying Bridge Man, a series of abstract sculptural kites based on the same motif. The kites create a metaphorical link between Tokyo and Miyakojima, connecting the capital with the island where Bridge Man stands.
Visits are by appointment only on weekdays, while walk-ins are welcome on Saturdays. The exhibition is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
