Planning a trip to Thailand this summer, but not sure where to get rid of all the extra cash in your wallet? Siam Discovery, the largest shopping mall in Bangkok – and all of Thailand, for that matter – has just had a facelift: reopened on May 28 after a $100 million renovation, it's the work of Siam Piwat Co Ltd, the players behind fellow Bangkok mega-malls Siam Paragon and Siam Center. Here are five reasons why you should shop at Siam Discovery next time you're in town.

1. There's no better place for upgrading your wardrobe

Siam Discovery's floors are divided by themes, known as ‘Lifestyle Laboratories’. At the entrance, you'll first find yourself in Her Lab, home of the latest fashion trends and retailers like Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake’s first international concept store, Factotum and Tsumori Chisato, plus global brands such as John Lawrence Sullivan and Opening Ceremony.

2. You're sure to come across something unique

Siam Discovery aims to help every customer find a unique, interesting item to take home and be inspired by. Custom-made jeans and shoes always make for a nice choice, while the Digital Laboratory floor – where all the latest electronic gadgets are hidden – even offers the opportunity to print your own original design on bags and such.

3. You'll get to visit a Thai version of a familiar Japanese shop

Japan's retailers are out in force in Bangkok, with Siam Discovery housing a huge branch of homewares specialist Loft. This outpost features a revamped concept thought out by Loft Japan's designers and stocks a whimsical selection of everything from home essentials to cosmetics and character merchandise.

4. You'll get a taste for what's hot in the Thai art world

The Creative Lab floors houses international interior décor specialists Hay, Tom Dixon and Kartell, all opening their first Thai locations here. Don't miss the exhibition space, which features a section dedicated to items created by some of Thailand's finest up-and-coming artists.

5. The design's a real treat for the eyes

Japanese design studio Nendo’s Oki Sato and a group of 25 local designers teamed up to decorate the halls and corridors of Siam Discovery, and they sure put in the work: the Beauty Zone on the men’s floor is so mesmerising you’ll want to stop for a while just to rest your eyes on the gorgeous interiors.
