Only a day after we brought you the news about Shibuya's plans for a glitzy future, another bit of Tokyo decides to unveil its shimmering schemes. Ginza, which saw both Tokyu Plaza and Ginza Place open earlier this year – accelerating the once-venerable area's tourist trap-ification – will have yet another addition by springtime next year.

This time, it's the old site of the Matsuzakaya department store that's getting a makeover. Its new occupant has been christened Ginza Six and, with a whopping 47,000㎡ of floor space, is set to become the largest commercial complex in the 'hood.

Spanning an enormous area, Ginza Six seeks to provide 'world-class' service to its customers, 'enriching their work, living and way of life'. The building itself has six basement levels and 13 stories above ground, neatly split between office and shopping floors. A total of 241 shops, from fashion boutiques to cafés, are set to call the complex home.

Facing Chuo-dori on the ground level will be high-flying international brands like Céline, Dior and Fendi, while the more artistically inclined will surely appreciate the inclusion of Tsutaya Books. You can also look forward to plentiful cosmetics stores, a massive food court and even a basement Noh theatre, with additional announcements still to come. And to make things even smoother for tourists, they're even adding a sightseeing bus stop smack in front of the main entrance. How charming.
