The biggest EDM event of the year, Ultra Japan is returning to Tokyo and Odaiba for three days of bone-shuddering madness. On from September 16 to 18, it may not be everyone's cup of musical tea, but if you're even vaguely into EDM, this is one festival you won't want to miss: headliners this year include crowd favourites The Chainsmokers and Steve Aoki, with a sprinkling of more bass-oriented performers such as Slushii thrown in for good measure.

Other high-profile acts such as Alesso, Nicky Romero, Hardwell, Kygo and Tiësto are flying back for their second or third appearance – if that isn't a recommendation from the artists about the festival's vibe, we don't know what is. Of course, Ultra Japan is also the place for domestic talent to shine, with a surprise set by Miyavi and tunes by local favourites from Monkey Timers to Okadada and veteran spinner Takkyu Ishino set to come.

This year, they've split the stages up into four rather than the previous three, meaning that besides the Main Stage, you'll be able to cherry-pick from the schedule on the new Live Stage, the Resistance Stage (for all your house and techno needs) and the Ultra Park Stage (local talent).

Tickets are nearing the sold-out point already, so if you're looking to rave your way through the three-day bonanza, get yours now on the official website. They ain't cheap, but considering Ultra is likely the only opportunity you'll ever have to see all these acts in Japan at the same time, the festival may just be worth its ¥39,000 price tag.
