The new Famima Park Azabudai convenience store is just steps from Azabudai Hills

If you love scouring the shelves of Japanese convenience stores, there’s a new konbini in Tokyo that you will want to check out. Located next to Azabudai Hills, the brand new Famima Park Azabudai is FamilyMart’s first flagship store, directed by fashion designer and entrepreneur Nigo®. Opened on July 10, the stylish store offers a fresh take on the konbini experience, with exclusive flagship merchandise and the brand’s full Convenience Wear collection.
It’s the perfect place to stop for a quick break, grab a snack or pick up souvenirs. What’s more, the store caters to international visitors, with staff who can communicate in five languages. Despite its elevated concept, it’s still a fully functioning convenience store, open 24 hours a day and stocked with all the usual staples, from onigiri rice balls and bottled tea to Famichiki fried chicken.
While Nigo took care of the direction, the architecture and retail space were designed by Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall. The building features a curved façade made with Moktex, a plaster-finish decorative concrete, and a glass-walled interior that gives the space an open, modern feel.
One of the store’s highlights is its full Convenience Wear collection, developed in collaboration with fashion designer Hiromichi Ochiai and displayed in a way that makes you feel like you’re browsing a fashion boutique rather than a convenience store.
It also features dedicated fitting rooms, allowing shoppers to try on the entire range before buying. There's also dedicated staff on hand who can help you with recommendations or any assistance you may need.
A few of the limited-edition items you'll find at the store include T-shirts with exclusive prints, tote bags and chic denim jackets.
You can also browse a range of flagship-exclusive merchandise, including Ami-ma plush toys shaped like the ‘F’ in FamilyMart, as well as pins, tumblers, stationery and keychains.
Another unique feature of the flagship is the outdoor Famima Stand, where you can order Famichiki fried chicken alongside freshly brewed tea and coffee made using beans exclusive to this location.
Coffee lovers will want to give it a try, as the blend was developed in collaboration with Tetsu Kasuya of Philocoffea, winner of the 2016 World Brewers Cup. There are also plenty of benches outside, making the space feel more like a small neighbourhood park than a typical convenience store.
As for other food offerings, you can find plenty of 'healthier' items like veggie-forward side dishes and salad bowls.
