Rebecca’s photo shows a skater ‘ninja’ cruising through the post town of Narai-juku in chilly Nagano prefecture. She took the shot when she visited Japan with her family back in 2019. Here’s the background story on the photo as told by Rebecca herself:

‘My family and I visited the heart of Japan's countryside last autumn and decided to stay in this quaint township called Narai-juku. It is one of the best-preserved post towns on Kiso's Nakasendo trail, and we had to keep pinching ourselves to make sure we hadn't time-travelled to the past! Just like what samurai would do when they travelled the long journey from Kyoto to Edo (now Tokyo), we were fortunate to stay in a machiya for the night. This photo was taken the next morning. It's also the very last photo taken with my camera as I accidentally dropped it during the process of shooting!’

Rebecca was one of the ten finalists chosen from more than 1,200 entries. And after two weeks of public voting, Rebecca's amazing photo received the most votes from our readers. For that, Rebecca has won herself a ¥5,000 Amazon gift card.

Congratulations to Rebecca and to all our finalists – it was a close contest! And thanks again to everyone who submitted their photos of Japan.

We also ran a similar contest on our Japanese Instagram. You can see the winner of that contest here.
