As luck would have it, there are at least three different big fireworks festivals this Saturday July 28 – and there's a typhoon on the way. Typhoon number 12, nicknamed Jongdari, is steadily making its way to the Tokyo area, with the worst of the rain and winds expected on Saturday. With the Sumida River, Hachioji and Tachikawa fireworks all set to start around 7pm, that could just mean problems.

As a result, the Sumida River Fireworks show has been tentatively postponed until Sunday July 29, with further updates expected at 6pm on July 28 through the organiser's official Twitter account. The Hachioji Fireworks have been cancelled; same for the one at Tachikawa. Sadly, both of these will not be rescheduled; better luck next year.

If you're going to Fuji Rock this year, keep abreast of the latest typhoon updates, and perhaps pack some extra wellies and ponchos. Hey, it's all part of the festival experience... Wherever you are in Tokyo this weekend, just keep an eye on the weather reports, and stay safe.
