Chocolate beer, anyone? For all you chocolate and beer lovers, TY Harbor Brewery has teamed up with Minimal, a Tokyo-based bean-to-bar chocolate company, to create a brand new craft brew for the summer that’s made from cacao — the purest form of chocolate you can consume.

Now when you think of chocolate beer, you might assume that you’ll be getting a glass of dark, chocolatey stout – but this beer is the complete opposite of that. The new Cacao Sour Ale is actually made with cacao pulp, the white-coloured flesh that covers the cluster of beans inside the fruit. On its own, the pulp has a light, fruity flavour that holds a number of health benefits and nutrients.

The new Cacao Sour Ale is surprisingly tart, and is lighter than some white ales that you’ll find in the craft brew market. Available just in time for summer, you'll be able to try a pint at selected venues around Tokyo starting Sunday July 1 – just head to TY Harbor on Tennozu Isle, Harajuku Smokehouse, or chocolate shop Minimal in Tomigaya.
