With the heat well behind us and the season’s plethora of food, cultural, and sports events finally kicking into gear, autumn is an undeniably great time to be in Japan.

Here we’ve picked out some of the most brilliant experiences across the country you can enjoy this season, from international art festivals, ultra-cute restaurants and elevated cocktail bars to a strange retro museum in Hokkaido, Tokyo’s bounciest reggae club and the world’s first JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure store.

So whether you’re heading to Tokyo, Osaka or somewhere else, this list should have a few spots well worth adding to your itinerary.

The largest arts festival in Japan is underway in Nagoya and Seto, turning the cities into an arena for discoveries in cutting-edge contemporary art and performing arts. The Aichi Triennale features contributions from a globe-spanning cast of 62 artists and collectives.
