Gekikara ('super-spicy') goodies are the focus at the fifth edition of this eye-watering but extremely popular food festa taking place over a total of 17 days in Kabukicho. The amount of participating restaurants has climbed to 27 this year, again forcing the organisers to divide the event into three parts. Part one sees the likes of ramen demons Nakamoto and curry oldie Ethiopia set up shop, while Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Mexican, Spanish, Chinese and Mongolian representatives are also set to join the fray. Check out the full list of eateries here, and prepare to really have your taste buds tested.

Note that the festival is closed in between the 'rounds' on August 28 and September 4.

I attended this event a couple of years ago. The food was uniformly good and the prices were reasonable. The crowds, though, were pretty large but all in all, a great experience. Looking forward to this year's event. Never tried Mongolian food and I'm intent on checking that out!
