The city of Yokohama is adorned with colourful flowers this spring. As part of the annual Garden Necklace festivities, Yokohama Park is celebrating its glorious tulips – there are 100,000 of them – on the weekend of April 8 through 10.
Highlights on Friday include an opening ceremony featuring a performance by the Yokohama City Fire Band and a flower arrangement demonstration by Dutch florist Len Alkemad. The adorable Garden City mascot, Garden Bear, will also be making an appearance.
On the weekend you’ll be treated to a special performance by Diana, the official dancers of Yokohama Dena Baystars baseball team. There will also be a market selling flowers and gardening tools as well as plenty of food and drinks to keep you well satisfied.
Pay a visit to Yamashita Park, too, for an exhibition featuring 21 flower beds created by local gardening companies. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite and check the results on the website the following week.
