TSO bassoonist and contrabassoonist Fraser Jackson teams up with pianist Monique de Margerie to present a program of chamber music for winds and piano, music that treads that fine line between art and entertainment. Does serious music have to be austere? Is beautiful music banal? Can a chamber concert leave you refreshed and recharged? What is art music anyway? The main work on the program is the magnificent Sextet for Piano and Winds by Francis Poulenc, a masterpiece for winds combining elements of French cabaret song, jazz, and art music in a lyrical and emotional tour de force. Joining Fraser and Monique are special guests Sibylle Marquardt (flute), Lief Mosbaugh (oboe), Dominic Desautels (clarinet), Christopher Gongos (horn) and Sam Banks (bassoon) and Colin Ainsworth (tenor). Featured will be works by HK Gruber, John Steinmetz, Claude Debussy, and Kenji Bunch.
