A common speaker’s joke starts with the question, ‘Do I have to be funny?’ The answer, of course, is, ‘Only if you want to get paid.’ The truth is that no matter how serious your topic is, or no matter how tragic the story is… humour always plays a major role in your ability to connect with your audience and keep them engaged. But what if you’re not naturally funny? What if you can’t tell a joke to save your life? What if you can’t find a place in your story to insert a laugh?

But this masterclass isn’t just about learning how to find the funny; it’s about taking the story you have and enhancing it with humour. This is the stuff that separates the professionals from the amateurs. Our unique exercises use the craft of comedy to improve memorability, audience engagement, impact, effectiveness and well, everything, including even your speaker fee!

You will work on:

- Where and how to insert a laugh for comedic relief or to make a point more pointed.
- The 4 fundamentals of funny
- How to develop a humour mindset
- The vocabulary of comedy
- Timing and pacing

In addition, you will use your own material or prepared story in exercises specifically designed to add smiles, snickers and big belly laughs to your talk.

This masterclass is facilitated by Michel Neray, founder of momondays, and Evan Carter, master humorist, doyen of the comedy in Toronto, Second City instructor, and mentor to many.
