Calling all serious foodies – the UK’s leading restaurants for 2025 have officially been unveiled. The 100 winners of the coveted National Restaurant Awards, as voted for by the UK’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and food writers, were announced in a ceremony at The Magazine London last night. Unsurprisingly, the capital bagged the most prizes, but there were several standout establishments across the rest of the country, too.
This year, the Ritz earned the grand title of the best restaurant in the UK for 2025. You can read more about that here. Moor Hall in West Lancashire (the UK’s newest three Michelin star restaurant) landed second place, with its head chef Mark Birchall crowned chef of the year. Last year’s victor, the Ledbury in London, was knocked down to third place.
Only two other non-London restaurants made it into the top ten: Osip in the Somerset village of Bruton ranked eighth and Ynyshir, the only two Michelin-starred establishment in Wales and one of Time Out’s top restaurants in the country, came in at number nine.
Ynyshir was also awarded the title of the best restaurant in Wales. Run by chef Gareth Ward, it offers a multi-course, Japanese-inspired tasting menu soundtracked by thumping techno music. Time Out contributing food writer Lucas Oakley said: ‘This riot of a restaurant offers you the chance to lose yourself in a cavalcade of food that doesn’t pull any punches. It might just be the most fun you’ll ever have in a fine-dining setting.’
In Scotland, Lyla in Edinburgh came out on top. When Time Out deputy editor Chiara Wilkinson visited, she called it a ‘top-tier fine-dining restaurant where the surroundings are as elegant as the dishes’, highlighting its ‘silky, umami-exploding smoked trout chawanmushi’ and the ‘crisp-covered Scottish langoustine and the rich, chocolately salted milk’. See the rest of Edinburgh’s best restaurants here.
Over in Northern Ireland, Belfast’s the Muddler’s Club reigned supreme. And, as it happens, we recently crowned the Muddler’s Club the finest restaurant in the Northern Irish capital, with contributor Anna Cafolla describing its offering as an ‘imaginative seasonal menu in a sexy space’.
