Ever since the chain made its UK debut in London’s Stratford Westfield in 2021, Popeyes has been bringing its famed Louisiana fried chicken to new British towns and cities at lightning pace. Within two years, the fast-food chain has grown to 38 locations across the country, including five drive-thrus. And it seems Popeyes has no intention of slowing down.

Popeyes has now announced that it plans to open 30 new sites across the UK over the next 12 months. Locations set to get the chicken chain include Birmingham, Aberdeen and Swansea, plus several parts of London

Tom Byng, chief development officer at Popeyes, said: ‘We’re excited to be giving even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our estate in 2024.

‘We’re particularly proud of our geographical spread of expansion, including our first ever travel hub restaurant in Waterloo station, which will be fuelling hungry travellers with great food and a dose of the famous New Orleans spirit.’

This week, new Popeyes will be popping up in Ilford and Hammersmith in London. The other locations confirmed to be getting new Popeyes restaurants and delivery kitchens are:

  • Bishop Auckland
  • Exeter
  • Bury New Road, Greater Manchester
  • Sauchiehall, Glasgow
  • Union Street, Aberdeen
  • Nottingham
  • Swansea
  • Birmingham
  • Waterloo Station, London

Fried chicken fans, your time is now – Popeyes isn't the only brand with its eyes set on expansion. American chain Chick-fil-A intends to open its first UK store by 2025 and KFC is adding even more branches to its UK roster (or should we say — rooster). But it seems that when one fast food door opens another one closes. While Popeyes is going from strength to strength, Papa Johns has announced that it is closing up to 100 stores in 2024.
