People of East Anglia, we have big news. From next April, Norwich Airport – one of the region’s main air hubs – is going to start offering some huge new routes. Budget airline Ryanair has announced that it intends to start operating routes between Norwich and destinations in Spain, Portugal and Malta

In other words, all you East Anglians may no longer have to trek all the way down to London Stansted (or further) to get away on hols.

The new routes will see Norwich connected with Faro (Portugal), Alicante (Spain) and Malta, meaning that Mediterranean (or in Faro’s case, Atlantic) beaches and sunshine are

While Norwich Airport isn’t exactly small, it isn’t one of the UK’s most significant air hubs either. The airport got about 319,000 passengers in 2022 – making it the country’s 28th biggest airport. For comparison, Heathrow saw about 61 million passengers over the same period.

Norwich does currently have international routes, but it doesn’t have many. There’s a daily route to Amsterdam’s Schiphol (which is admittedly very handy – Schiphol is exceptionally well-connected), plus other seasonal services to destinations in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Spain.

You can check out dates and prices for the new routes on the Ryanair website here.
