We might not’ve invented the dish, but there’s no denying that Brits love a good slice of pizza. Whether it comes in a greasy box from a massive chain or on a warm plate from an artisan parlour, all kinds of pizza have their own sort of appeal. But where in the country can you find the best pizza in the entire UK?

Every year, the National Pizza Awards sets out to answer that question. The 2023 edition saw 15 of the country’s best pizzerias battle it out for the top prize, and this year’s winner triumphed against competition in the likes of London, Bath, Glasgow and Oxford.

The winning pizza was called the ‘Cinghiale’ from Bristolian restaurant and microbrewery Zerodegrees. Featuring fior di latte cheese, wild boar salami, ‘nduja, roquito pepper, parmesan, tomato sauce and fresh basil, the pie sounds like an absolute drool-fest.

Other prizes went to the ‘Raphael Persighetti’ of Pizzarova (also in Bristol), which won Plant-Based Pizza of the Year, while the Pizza Chef of the Year went to Joshua Ward of Palms Pizzeria in Margate.
