We all have our signature dishes, that one plate of food that makes us feel like a bit Ramsay-esque when we rustle it up. But even if you reckon your scrambled eggs are better than most, it’s unlikely to compare to the magic that the best chefs in the world can pull out of the bag.

If you were wondering who the very best chefs in the world are right now, well, we have just the thing. The Best Chef awards – I mean, who else would it be – has revealed its list of the world’s 100 best cooks, with the list hailing from the likes of Colombia, Slovenia, Japan and Australia

The winners were voted for by a group of food journalists, critics, bloggers, photographers and other industry professionals, and this year’s awards took place in Merida, Mexico. Excitingly, four of the 100 best chefs in the world were from the UK

The first of them is Daniel Calvert, a chef from a small commuter town in southeast England who claimed spot number 25. Calvert has worked in world-famous London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong kitchens.

At number 49 it’s British chef and TV personality Heston Blumenthal, who became famous for his OTT experimental style – and that Christmas pudding that had an orange in plonked in the middle.

Clare Smyth, a Northern Irish chef whose signature restaurant Core in Notting Hill is a champion of sustainable cooking, claims place number 62. At number 68 it’s Tristan Farmer, a Scot who’s previously worked in Ramsay’s kitchen at Claridges, and now specialises in a blend of Nordic and Japanese cuisine.
