A fan of fried chicken but sick of the Colonel? Time to celebrate. Mary Brown’s, one of the most popular chicken chains in Canada, is heading across the pond and opening up its first store in the UK

The North American import is set to open its first British outpost in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, on Wednesday 21 February. The first UK Mary Brown’s will celebrate its opening with free sandwiches for the first 250 guests who pass through its doors.

The company’s CEO expressed excitement at the launch, saying: ‘We are excited to introduce our legendary fried chicken to the wonderful people of Lisburn.

‘We have been a beloved tradition in Canada for generations, and we can’t wait to share our passion for delicious, made-from-scratch quality food with our new friends in the UK.’

Lisburn is the only Mary Brown’s location slated to open in the UK at the moment, but there are plans to expand across Northern Ireland and potentially into Belfast in the future. For now, if you’re in the area head to Lisburn retail park for the biggest thing to happen to British fried chicken since Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Are you a fried chicken fan?

Mary Brown’s isn’t the only North American chain breaking into the UK. Popeye’s, another fried chicken vendor, is opening 30 new restaurants across the country, and Chick-fil-A plans to invest seriously in the UK over the coming years. Even KFC is getting in on the action, with ten new stores which are either already open or will be soon. Wingstop, which (shockingly) specialises in chicken wings, is also opening up 15 new branches of saucy chicken-y goodness.

Did you see that this cool new market hall could be coming to Manchester?

Plus: These 12 UK pubs are officially ‘perfect’, according to National Geographic.
