Airlines suspend and revive flight offerings all the time. To match consumer demand or save a bit of dosh, some flights get scrapped on a seasonal basis while others are ditched for the foreseeable future. For example, German airline Lufthansa recently cut ties with Liverpool and Bristol airports, while Ryanair confirmed new routes from Norwich airport for this spring.

Now, in the latest aviation update, Wizz Air has announced that it will no longer run flights between Cluj-Napoca in Romania and either Birmingham or Liverpool

Cluj-Napoca is the second most populous city in Romania and the unofficial Transylvanian capital. While you won’t find any vampires, it’s brimming with castles, botanical gardens, traditional cultural celebrations and a progressive music scene. Despite all of that, it remains underrated as a holiday destination.

Due to the lack of passenger demand, Wizz Air is due to stop flying to Cluj-Napoca from Birmingham on March 27. It suspended its route from Liverpool at the end of last year and has now confirmed that it won’t be resumed.

Travel Wires said that the scrapped flights are down to ‘reduced demand for certain destinations and changes in the travel market’. But if you’re still looking for a Transylvanian getaway from Liverpool, don’t fret. Liverpool John Lennon Airport recently welcomed new airline Dan Air, which operates direct flights the Romanian city of Bacău.
