The annual Levitation music festival which was scheduled to take place on Carson Creek Ranch, just outside of Austin, Texas, this week has been canceled. In a statement on the festival's website organizers cited "dangerous weather conditions in the forecast combined with weather complications to the grounds and the Colorado River" as the reason for the abrupt cancellation.

Organizers did not take the decision to cancel the festival—which draws more than 10,000 attendees—lightly, stating that they are "completely devastated." "We have tried every avenue to continue with the festival, and the county has been working with us to find a way," the statement continues, "but today at 5:00pm the final decision was made."

While the cancellation is certainly a disappointment for anyone who made plans to travel and camp out at the three-day event, the drastic decision was made in the best interest of attendees, organizers and artists. Texas has seen record amounts of rainfall in recent weeks, including a severe storm in Austin earlier this week that brought tornadoes and hail to the area. Existing high water levels and the chance of even more serve weather during the coming weekend played a large role in the decision to call off the fest entirely.

Levitation will be issuing full refunds to all ticket holders within the next 30 days and organizers are currently scrambling to find indoor venues around Austin where artists who were scheduled to perform at the festival may be able to stage impromptu concerts. The lineup for the festival included Brian Wilson (performing Pet Sounds), Animal Collective, Flying Lotus, Ty Segall, Slowdive, Ween and other psych-rock acts.
