You’re gonna want to watch this one live. NBC is airing Hairspray Live! tomorrow at 8/7c, and it’s bound to be trending on Twitter. Want to see if Ariana Grande is a better actress than Amanda Bynes? Want to watch Kristin Chenoweth nail it like she always does? Then pause your Netflix binge and see if this show will replace Grease: Live! as the best made-for-TV live musical.
And listen, we’re not saying Hairspray Live! took our advice and did almost everything we suggested, but we’re not saying it didn’t. For example, it's adding the live audience that was sorely missed with The Wiz, it cast an unknown as Tracy Turnblad but big names (Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short) as her parents, and there are lots and lots of star cameos (Billy Eichner, Sean Hayes, Rosie O’Donnell).
