Considering a career change and in need of some guidance? You're in luck, we've got you covered.

Business networking website LinkedIn analyzed data from over two million of the site's own members and released its annual U.S. State of Salary report, examining how "salaries vary by job title, education level and field of study, location, company size and industry."

Although most results are predictable (medicine is the field that pays the most, finance pays the largest bonuses), some other highlights are surprisingly informative (investment banking associate is the only mid-level role in the top 20 list).

Below, find the list of the highest paying jobs in the country alongside their respective median total compensations (including bonuses and commissions, if applicable):

1. Orthopedic surgeon ($450,000)
2. Cardiologist ($382,000)
3. Radiologist ($374,000)
4. Anesthesiologist ($350,000)
5. Plastic surgeon ($350,000)
6. Emergency physician ($314,000)
7. Senior vice president, finance ($300,000)
8. Senior vice president, sales ($300,000)
9. Senior managing director ($298,000)
10. Vice president, tax ($272,000)
11. Senior vice president, human resources ($272,000)
12. Senior vice president, strategy ($256,000)
13. Vice president, supply chain ($255,000)
14. Medical director ($250,000)
15. Ophthalmologist ($250,000)
16. Vice president, research and development ($248,000)
17. Senior vice president, marketing ($245,000)
18. Associate general counsel ($242,000)
19. Investment banking associate ($242,000)
20. Senior director, engineering ($239,000)

The study also finds that where you live has a lot to do with how much you're getting paid. Folks in San Francisco, Seattle, D.C. and New York have the highest average salaries across the country ($86,600-$112,400)—but also happen to boast the steepest rent prices in the U.S. Go figure.
