The Fourth Wing: Rise of the Wingleader board game comes with a metal bookmark featuring Tairn.

If you’re a Fourth Wing girlie, your chance to fly with the dragons has arrived.
Goliath Games will release Fourth Wing: Rise of the Wingleader, a board game adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s record-breaking fantasy series, on Wednesday, July 15. If you know the series, you know July 15 is Conscription Day—so the timing of this release is wildly appropriate.

“Fans have made Fourth Wing a cultural phenomenon, and we wanted to honor that passion with a game that feels like a true extension of the Empyrean universe,” says Julie Doverspike, Global Games brand director. “From exclusive character artwork to fan-selected creative elements, every decision was made with the community in mind. We’re excited to celebrate Conscription Day by inviting players to step into the world of Basgiath and forge their own path to becoming Wingleader.”
So how does it work? To play this push-your-luck game, you select a dragon meeple in the color of your choice and make your way around the edge of a circular board to become Wingleader at Basgiath War College. You have to outmaneuver others, forge alliances and prove you have what it takes to rise through the ranks.
The first player gets a metal bookmark that doubles as the first-player marker featuring Tairn.
Based on your hand of cards, which feature characters from the series (i.e., Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson) and two or three symbols in colors that correspond to the board, you move as far as you can, according to Littleboardgamers.com.
Once you’ve used all your cards, you can check out and take your earnings, push by playing another card, or fold and save your cards, much like poker. You go around until everyone has either checked out or folded, the board game review site says. Then, using your tokens, you move around the board, and a new round begins. There are special powers called signets that you can unlock that give you abilities to change your luck.
“It’s a really simple game that has obviously been designed to appeal to fans of the book series, but we genuinely really enjoyed it,” the site says. “It’s essentially a straightforward bidding and push-your-luck card game with some light strategic elements, but it works really well. You can play this with anyone, regardless of their knowledge of the books or even their level of board gaming experience. It’s incredibly approachable.”
If you want to play it before you buy it, Goliath is hosting live gameplay events at Gen Con at the Lucky Duck Booth #2827 and at San Diego Comic-Con, where Den of Geek activation details will be announced.
Otherwise, the game is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Books-A-Million. There will also be a bookseller variant of the game with exclusive collector packaging at these locations.
