Bok bok, b*tch! Crazy Rich Asians isn’t done yet—there’s a new TV series on the way by HBO and Warner Bros.

When the original film, directed by Jon M. Chu, came out in 2018, the quirky, modern-day Cinderella story hit majorly with audiences, grossing over $238 million and becoming the highest-grossing romantic comedy of the 2010s (not to mention everyone's go-to in-flight movie). The rom-com juggernaut, which featured an all-Asian cast including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh, scored nominations for two Golden Globe Awards, three NAACP Image Awards, four Critics' Choice Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

And since then, people have been unsurprisingly asking for more, according to Chu.

“Finally, I get to answer the question I’ve been asked almost every day for eight years: ‘When are we getting the sequel?’ Well… bok bok bitch, we’re back,” Chu said in the official series announcement. “Eight years ago, CRAZY RICH ASIANS changed my life, and I got to make it with the most creative and hilarious group of people I’ve ever known. Since then, this cast has become movie stars, superheroes, arena-filling performers and even an Oscar winner, so bringing everyone back together feels like coming home. It’s been incredible watching audiences make this movie part of their lives, from mahjong nights to becoming the ultimate airplane movie, and I can’t wait to share what comes next.”

Here's everything to know about the new Crazy Rich Asians series coming soon to HBO.

What will the Crazy Rich Asians TV show be about?

The upcoming eight-episode HBO series will pick up after the events of the film, which saw Rachel Chu (Wu) get a harrowing introduction to her boyfriend Nick Young’s (Golding) extremely wealthy family on a trip to Singapore for a wedding. His mother Eleanor (Yeoh) is dead-set on digging up the dirt on Rachel and driving a wedge between the couple, but when she learns that Rachel won’t make Nick choose between the women, Eleanor finally accepts their relationship and Nick proposes to Rachel with his mother’s ring. A direct sequel of the O.G. movie, the TV romance will no doubt continue these tensions as Nick and Rachel navigate their new life together.

The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians is based on the 2013 bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan. The author published two follow-ups to that beloved book—2015's China Rich Girlfriend and 2017's Rich People Problems—so it's probably that the HBO show will pull storylines from those pages.

Who’s behind the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?

Adele Lim, co-writer of the film, will showrun and executive produce the series alongside Kwan, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and the film’s director Jon M. Chu. The series is co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television.

Several familiar faces from the original film will return and reprise their big-screen characters, including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh.

However, we don't yet know whether fellow Crazy Rich Asians lead Gemma Chan will return as Astrid, Nick's cousin.
