Airbnb has extended its global party ban through the summer

Thinking of throwing a house party this summer? It will have to be at your own house. 

Back in August 2020, Airbnb instituted a global ban on parties to 'promote responsible behavior' during the pandemic. In action, the ban included removing the 'event-friendly' search filter and removing any 'parties and events allowed' house rules in all Airbnb listings from around the world. This week, the company announced that those features will remain inaccessible through at least the end of summer 2021.

“We want to be really good community players all over the world,” said CEO Brian Chesky in a press release. 

But the anti-party measures don't end there. In the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Spain, Airbnb will also continue to restrict guests under the age of 25 from booking entire home listings in their local area under certain circumstances. Specifically, folks under the age limit who don't have at least three positive reviews won't be able to book full houses close to where they live, but they will still have access to hotels, private rooms and any other property that sits outside their neighborhood of permanent residence. 

And in the US, guests without a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will also be prohibited from making one night reservations in entire home listings during July 4th weekend.
