One of the true gems of the early aughts is getting time to shine once again as a TV show.

Ella Enchanted, which starred Anne Hathaway in 2004, follows Ella who has been bestowed the gift of obeying anything she is told to do. More than a curse than a blessing, she seeks out her fairy godmother, Lucinda (Vivica A. Fox) to break the spell while falling in love with Prince Charmont (Hugh Dancy). What made the film even more beloved was its use of popular songs that its characters broke into, including Kelly Clarkson's cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Hathaway’s cover of “Somebody to Love” by Queen and “Don't Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee, covered by Hathaway and Jesse McCartney.

Hathaway, who has starred in other Disney properties The Other Side of Heaven, The Princess Diaries, and most recently, The Devil Wears Prada 2, will return in a different role this time as executive producer, according to Deadline. The series, which will come to Disney+, is written by Anyone But You’s Ilana Wolpert and show run by Beth Schwartz (Dead Boy Detectives).

The log line says “When 16-year-old Ella of Frell—cursed at birth to obey every command—is sent to boarding school after her mother's untimely death, she begins to uncover the truth about her curse, builds an unlikely found family, and deals with an extremely inconvenient crush on the prince of her kingdom.”

While it’s still too early to know what to expect, Deadline says showrunners plan to stick to the basic movie premise and the book it was based on, but it’ll focus less on telling the same old Cinderella story and more on Ella’s coming-of-age at the boarding school. In the book by Gail Carson Levine, Ella does stay at a boarding-style finishing school for girls.

Hathaway started her career at Disney as a teenager, still counts herself as “part of the family.”

“Like so many of you, I was introduced to Disney as a child, learning how to dream and tell stories,” she said in the Deadline article. “Playing Mia in Princess Diaries became this magical portal that opened up my whole life and now with the Devil Wears Prada franchise; these two films that have shaped my career the most are at the same wonderful home, and I am so honored to be a part of the family.”

While there’s currently no details on timing, we’re ready to sing along with Ella again!
