We're delighted to let you know that the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai is officially open to tourists—a bit of news that comes a month after the destination opted out of the state's travel testing program.

According to an official press release, as of this past Tuesday, tourists will be able to avoid quarantine upon arrival if testing negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of traveling to the island. They'll also have to stay at an approved "resort bubble" property and test negative a second time 72 hours after landing. According to the Associated Press, program participants will also be required to don tracking bracelets.

Most importantly, given the hardships involved in quarantine life, Kauai's Mayor Derek Kawakami explained that "travelers who participate in [the] program will be able to enjoy resort amenities and visit the pool for the first three days of their vacations until they are eligible to take their post-travel test. Once [that] shows they are COVID-free, they can enjoy all that Kauai has to offer." Translation: you can actually vacation while waiting to get tested!

You can find the names and make a reservation at one of the accepted "resort bubble" hotels right here.

If opting to stay at one of the six hotels that don't appear on the approved list, travelers will be subjected to a 10-day quarantine upon arrival.

Although clearly significantly different from what we're used to, it seems like travel is picking up all around the country. As we always say: please be responsible and keep your own safety and everyone else's in mind while vacationing.
