According to The Dyrt’s 2023 Camping Report, more than half (57.1%) of campers brought pets with them camping in 2022. 91% of these adventurous pets were dogs (seven percent cats and the rest included guinea pigs, birds, rabbits and even livestock). With those numbers, it’s no wonder some campgrounds have stepped up to provide special accommodations for canine campers.
To determine the best places to go camping with dogs, The Dyrt dug through more than million reviews submitted by users to identify the spots where campers enjoy taking their canine companions. These top spots were then ranked based on ratings, photos and amenities offered such as dog parks and dog beaches.
According to users, the number one most dog-friendly campground in the U.S. is the Lake George RV Park in New York. The peaceful campground features an expansive two-acre dog park with plenty of shade, seating for humans and a dog-wash station. Coming in at number two is Alum Creek State Park in Ohio. This spot has two fenced-in fields—one for big dogs and one for little dogs—plus two fenced-in areas with lake access for doggie paddling. The seaside Fort DeSoto campground in Florida has plenty of beachfront for romping plus two fenced-in dog parks and a dog wash station.
Wrapping up the list is Campground at James Island County Park in South Carolina, Silver Springs Campground in Ohio, First Landing State Park in Virginia, Tucson - Lazydays KOA in Arizona, Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee and Chatfield State Park in Colorado.
