Here's why you never want to be without polarized glasses in Florida

What lurks beneath the water is no joke

You never know what's lurking in Florida's waters, and a chilling video shows yet another reason people should be cautious when approaching wetlands in the Sunshine State.

Instagrammer and avid fisherman Hugo Garcia posted a now-viral video to Instagram warning fellow anglers to never be without polarized sunglasses in Florida.

Why? Well, when Garcia shows the water, it looks like potentially a great place to fish. Once he places polarized lenses over his phone camera, it's obvious an enormous-seeming alligator is resting just below the surface, which, yes, could be extremely dangerous to humans, particularly those with bait.

Polarized lenses help reduce glare, meaning that the sun's reflection on the water is lessened once you're wearing them, allowing you to see potential hazards, AKA giant reptiles, in the water.

Some commenters on the video claim they can see the gator lurking in the water without special lenses, but caution is always a good idea when dealing with this potentially deadly creature.

As a general rule, Floridians and visitors are taught to learn that there could be a gator wherever there is water. And in South Florida, American crocodiles also have their own habitats.

Eager to see an alligator in a safe environment? Everglades Alligator Farm near Miami is open for all ages to enjoy reptile photo opps, witness alligator wrestling and learn more about Florida's most famous indigenous animals.
