JetBlue is slashing routes from NYC, Boston and more in 2024

Heads up JetBlue flyers: the airline is cutting routes, and the Northeast in particular will feel the sting. Fourteen routes are on the chopping block and all but one involve Boston or New York.

JetBlue will drop service to Burlington, Vermont—a city it has served for more than two decades—and will discontinue service between New York and Washington, D.C., which it had only launched recently based on consumer demand.

The full list of canceled routes includes:

• Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
• Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC)
• Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Miami International Airport (MIA)
• John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Burlington International Airport (BTV)
• John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Charleston International Airport (CHS)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Nashville International Airport (BNA)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Charleston International Airport (CHS)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Denver International Airport (DEN)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Portland International Jetport (PWM)
• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)

The routes will be phased out in the coming months, with some routes ending after the holidays, some ending in January or March.

Why such drastic measures? The airline’s decision is twofold. First is the dissolution of the Northeast Alliance—a partnership between JetBlue and American that allowed the two airlines to share routes and expand service—due to a Department of Justice antitrust lawsuit. The second is ongoing Air Traffic Control staffing issues.

Passengers with previously booked flights on these routes need not worry, however, as JetBlue will offer alternate flight options or a full refund.
