It's called the "dating Superbowl" and it happened yesterday on Match.com: According to the dating website, the first Sunday after New Year's is the most active day on the platform—and they have 20 years worth of data to support the claim.

"Singles are feeling inspired and motivated to meet someone in the beginning of 2018," a Match spokeswoman told CNET. "They've just spent the holidays with their families, getting an earful of dating advice from their aunt and their parents prying into their dating lives and asking when they're going to get grandkids."

Specifically, the website predicted a 42 percent increase in new singles joining the platform for said Sunday alone. Back during the first Sunday of 2017, 2.75  million messages were sent via the platform.

And Match.com isn't the only dating portal to witness an increase in activity come the new year. According to ABC News, "On Tinder [...], more than 44 million matches were made on 'Dating Sunday' last year." To put things in perspective, an average day on the platform produces around 26 million matches.

May the odds be ever in your favor, online daters!
