We might still not know who the President of the United States will be come January, but folks in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky now officially have a new mayor to report to: six-month-old French bulldog Wilbur.

A bit of background: the Boone County town has actually been electing dogs as mayors since 1998. The first pup in power was one Goofy Borneman, who unfortunately passed before his four-year-term was up.

The election actually serves as a fundraiser for the 3.5-acre town. In fact, it's not only residents that can vote but folks all around the country willing to pay a dollar for the ballot.

The pretty peculiar mayoral run isn't the only defining characteristic of the 500-person town: Rabbit Hash is on the National Register of Historic Places in large part thanks to its very old General Store, which was built around 1831.

But back to Wilbur: the American Kennel Club-registered purebred dog was adopted by Rabbit Hash resident Amy Noland just four months ago. Noland told NBC News that she decided to run Wilbur's campaign because of "all the negative media that's out there surrounding America and the election and COVID-19. So, I guess, I wanted Wilbur to be something positive in the news."

Boy, was she right: this cute piece of news is helping us smile into the weekend.
