If you have the choice when taking your next vacation, browsing stats related to hassle-free flying can be helpful when choosing an airline. Your latest option comes from luggage storage company Bounce.com. The company’s 2023 Airline Index includes rankings of the best and worst domestic airlines based on a variety of factors that contribute to passenger comfort.

The rankings take into account entertainment, meals, seat comfort, staff service, on-board entertainment, on-time arrivals, cancellations, baggage allowance and complaint numbers. The rankings also factor in ratings gleaned from Skytrax. That’s a lot of numbers to crunch, but Bounce.com has done it, and the Index reveals which domestic airlines come out on top and which airlines cause the most headaches.

Coming in at number one for best domestic airline, with a ranking of 6.05 out of ten, is Delta Airlines. The airline has one of the highest percentages of on-time arrivals and the lowest rate of cancellations. It also earned high scores for its in-flight experience and boasts the lowest level of passenger complaints. Rounding out the top five, in order, are Southwest, Hawaiian, Alaska and United.

As for the airlines to avoid, Allegiant Air is ranked the worst, with a score of just .74 out of 10. A low percentage of on-time flights and a high rate of cancellations plus low comfort ratings and minimal baggage allowance contribute to the score. Frontier, Spirit, JetBlue and American make up the bottom five of the ten ranked airlines. These airlines experience a range of woes, from delayed flights and uncomfortable seats to nonexistent baggage allowances and poor service ratings.
