Think the end of summer means a slowdown in travel? Think again. According to Tripadvisor’s Fall Travel Index, 74% of American travelers surveyed for the report say they will travel this fall, up from 61% last year at the same time. The report also indicates that cultural exploration and sightseeing are high on the list of fall travel priorities.

Unlike most summer getaways geared towards relaxation, fall travelers seek experiential trips to explore a destination more thoroughly. 75% of travelers say they will visit somewhere they’ve been before—revisiting a destination provides a sense of security while also opening the door to see and do more. Tripadvisor’s report indicates a greater interest in museums, cultural institutions, local food and local tours for fall travel plans.

Solo travel is also on the rise, with 26% of travelers planning to travel alone this fall to immerse themselves more fully into the local culture of a destination.

International travel is still increasing, but 65% of U.S. travelers say they will stay domestic this fall. Top trending destinations on Tripadvisor for fall travel include the always-popular Las Vegas and Orlando, Little Torch Key, FL, Carefree, AZ, Hawley, PA, and Indio, CA.

Whatever your plans are for fall travel, Alice Jong, Research and Insights Senior Analyst, Media at Tripadvisor recommends booking soon to get the best deals: “If you’ve yet to book your fall trip, the beginning of November is the most affordable time to visit some of the most popular destinations this season.”
