In response to rapid growth that includes a roster of new destinations, Spirit Airlines has announced it'll be adopting new flight scheduling technology to maximize the efficiency of operations.

No, this AI isn’t replacing desk agents or pilots—Amadeus SkySYM technology is designed to crunch data from a wide range of sources to create side-by-side, virtual representations that can identify trouble spots to help Spirit’s Network Planning Team create more efficient airline schedules. More efficient flight schedules mean more reliability.

A number of factors are considered when planning flight schedules, from staffing and environmental impacts to air traffic control constraints and airspace around each destination. SkySYM can help identify potential disruptions, allowing the team to plan flight schedules to minimize the impact of potential issues. Other factors include connection time and the popularity of a route or destination. The AI technology uses historical data, trends and forecasted data to identify and recommend schedule adjustments. This should make for a better travel experience.

With so many variables impacting air travel, Spirit’s adoption of SkySYM technology should improve efficiency. Given that travel can be so uncomfortable these days (how small can an airplane seat get?), let’s hope this AI moves things in the right direction.
