Off-the-beaten-path culinary enclaves are big, and last-minute staycations are proving to be a popular vacation option.
Fans continue to travel to see their favorite artists and athletes, some traveling great distances to get in on the action. Airbnb reports that searches in Houston, TX have surged 620% during Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter Tour dates in June. Charlotte, NC is another concert hotspot, up 200% when Shakira comes through town in May.
Other travelers are looking to beat the crowds, and even those looking to experience a destination through food are swapping crowded culinary capitals for quieter spots that offer a more affordable experience. Think Rotterdam rather than Paris or Alassio instead of Positano. Right here in the U.S., Oneonta, NY, has emerged as a foodie fave. This hidden gem in the Catskills is known for its breweries and diverse dining options that focus on farm-to-table ingredients.
One of the biggest trends Airbnb has seen is a surge in staycations in the U.S. Groups and families looking to spend time together are searching for nearby properties within 300 miles of their homes, and many are booking spontaneously at the last minute. Trending destinations include Long Beach, CA; Page, AZ and Sioux Falls, SD.
Properties like a creekside cabin with plenty of hiking options in Shandaken, NY; a mountain oasis near a pickleball court in Bristol, TN; and a modern retreat with a pool that sleeps ten in Miami offer an easy, out-of-the-ordinary option for large groups to stay together and access plenty of entertainment.
