These kid-friendly campgrounds go far beyond the basics, with water parks, playgrounds and nonstop activities built right in.

A new report from The Dyrt has rounded up the best campgrounds across the U.S. that go all-in on making the outdoors fun for kids and occasionally relaxing for parents, too.
The list, part of The Dyrt’s 2026 Best Places to Camp With Kids awards, highlights destinations with a lot more to offer than a patch of grass and a fire ring. Think playgrounds, water parks, arcades, fishing ponds and even ziplines, all in scenic settings that still deliver a classic vibe for sleeping under the stars.
For most of us, our camping nostalgia centers around mosquito bites and questionable sleeping bags, but today’s family-friendly campgrounds are a little more forgiving. Many have evolved into full-blown outdoor resorts, where kids can stay busy from sunrise to lights-out and adults can actually sit down for some much-needed uninterrupted time.
Some spots on the list lean into nature in a big way. At Dinosaur Valley State Park in Texas, kids can literally walk in real dinosaur tracks embedded in the riverbed. In Tennessee, Greenbrier Campground offers swimming holes and trout fishing along the Little Pigeon River, plus easy access to the Great Smoky Mountains.
Others go all-in on entertainment. Ocean Lakes Family Campground in South Carolina has its own water park, complete with slides, a lazy river and beachfront access, while Jellystone Park in Pennsylvania mixes classic camping with Yogi Bear-themed chaos, from laser tag to jumping pillows. And Disney fans can even camp at Disney’s Fort Wilderness in Florida, where pony rides and campfire sing-alongs come with a side of theme park proximity.
Then there are the all-rounders—places like Normandy Farms in Massachusetts or HTR Niagara in New York—that jam in just about every activity you can think of, from mini golf and pools to kayaking and outdoor movie nights.
The takeaway: Camping with kids no longer means sacrificing comfort for the sake of the experience. It just means choosing the right place—preferably one with a splash pad, a snack bar and something exciting enough to wear everyone out by bedtime.
