These 50 bars were just named some of the best in North America

If you needed a reason to plan a bar-hopping trip (or, realistically, 50 reasons), here it is: the extended ranking for North America’s 50 Best Bars has just dropped, spotlighting the places currently shaking and stirring up great nights out across the continent.

This newly released 51–100 list, which is a predecessor to the official top 50 reveal that comes out next month, includes everything from neighborhood hangouts in Chicago and Austin to destination-worthy cocktail dens in Mexico City, Tulum and the Caribbean. “Best bar” no longer means white tablecloths and hush tones—it can be everything from a freezer-door speakeasy, a neon-lit dive or a karaoke room that happens to have a killer drinks program.

And if there’s an overarching theme this year, it’s personality. The bars that made the cut aren’t playing it safe. Whether it’s hyper-local ingredients, high-concept storytelling or just really, really good Martinis, they’re giving you a reason to remember exactly where you were when you ordered that drink.
