Last week, vacation home listing service Vrbo released its first-ever list of the ten best vacation homes in the US. The selection is limited to homes in popular destination cities that garnered five-star ratings, were busy and owned by Premier Hosts and offered family-friendly amenities nearby. A range of kinds of homes were selected to appeal to different tastes in terms of price point and type of destination.

For instance, on the rugged, outdoor, adventure-based end of the scale, the Beaver Creek Lodge, a remote mountain lodge in Blue Sky, Montana, earns admiration for spectacular views and the hiking, cross-country skiing, biking, fishing and hot-tubbing on offer steps outside the door. The indoor shuffleboard court definitely is an unexpected benefit. The home sleeps eight and sits on 20 acres with creek frontage. It’s an average of $1,000 a night.

And for those who eschew the mountains and prefer a beach retreat, the Great Expectations oceanfront beach house in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, sleeps 16 guests for a party vibe. It’s $1,347 a night, and the seasoned host has been with Vrbo for 15 years. A cobblestone courtyard with palm trees and a private pool leads to this home whose backyard is literally a sandy beach.

Hankering for some amusement park visits during your stay? Then the Moonshine Peak Chalet near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is the place to quickly access Dollywood. It’s also close to the Smoky Mountain National Park and will please players with its outdoor lawn games and indoor arcade games and pool table. It’s a cute three story chalet built into the hillside which sleeps ten and costs $463 a night.

Seven others on the list include a modern cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma; a contemporary farmhouse in East Hampton, New York; an oceanfront retreat on the island of Hawaii; a luxury beachfront home in Hilton Head, South Carolina; a designer retreat in Palm Springs, California; a modern property in Sawyer, Michigan; and a mountain lodge in Telluride, Colorado.

So if you're looking for something special this summer, don't hesitate to book one of these stunning homes.
