There’s nothing like sleeping under the stars, and the U.S. has more than 50,000 campsites where you can pitch a tent—or hook up an RV, or book a cabin—and enjoy nature. From mountains and lakes to rivers and deserts, campsites can be wildly different. Regardless of the setting, some campsites stand out among the rest, and camping info app The Dyrt has analyzed millions of reviews from its community of users to determine the absolute best places to camp in the U.S.

The ten best camping spots are spread across the entire country and range from a campsite near the tallest mountain in the U.S., a cluster of campsites accessible only by water and a campsite with an equestrian component. Dyrt users—all eight million and counting—rate, review and post photos of camping sites including cabins, tent sites, glamping setups and RV spots. Following 2023’s best places to camp by region, The Dyrt’s latest list is truly the best of the best.

Coming in at number one is the Wonderland Lake Campground Alaska’s Denali National Park. This remote spot is surrounded by pristine wilderness and offers a close-up view of the tallest peak in the U.S. Nearby activities include fishing, hiking and plenty of wildlife viewing (watch out for bears). At number two is Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, a collection of campsites that require a paddle and a hike to get to, and well worth the effort. Number three is Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Texas, the second-largest canyon in the U.S. On offer are cabins, tent sites and equestrian camping, plus activities like horseback riding and mountain biking.

Rounding out the top 10 are Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, Many Glacier Campground in Montana, Alabama Hills Recreation Area in California, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backcountry Sites in Michigan, Cathedral Pines Campground in Maine, Cherokee Rock Village in Alabama and Keuka Lake State Park in New York. In the three years The Dyrt has released its rankings, Alabama Hills Recreation Area is the only spot to appear all three years. Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Goblin Valley State Park and Many Glacier Campground have made the list for the second time.
