These are the most peaceful beaches in the U.S., and two spots just tied for No. 1

The summer mindset will be wrenched from us only when the first leaves start falling. Until then, we will continue to dream of tropical destinations and sandy beaches. And if your idea of a beach vacation involves hearing the ocean instead of listening to someone’s Bluetooth speaker 15 feet away, there’s still time to escape.

Travel + Leisure has rounded up the 10 quietest beaches in the U.S. based on a study by hearing-aid manufacturer ReSound, covering spots from the Gulf Coast to New England, the Great Lakes and even Nevada. (Well, what could be more quiet than a beach in the desert?)

Of course, "quiet" can mean different things to different people. For ReSound, it apparently means social media chatter: The study is based on the number of hashtags used for the beaches.

Two destinations tied for the top spot with 5,000 hashtags each: Ship Island Beach in Mississippi and Mohegan Bluffs Beach in Rhode Island. Ship Island, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, offers the kind of remote feeling that requires a little more effort to reach, while Mohegan Bluffs delivers dramatic coastal scenery on Block Island.

New York made the list with Coopers Beach in Southampton (No. 8), while Massachusetts scored two entries, with Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea at No. 3 and Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester at No. 10. Michigan's Oval Beach (No. 4) and Nevada's Sand Harbor Beach on Lake Tahoe (No. 9) offer a reminder that "beach" vacations don't have to mean the ocean.

The ranking arrives at a time when travelers are increasingly looking for quieter, less crowded ways to vacation. And while none of these beaches can promise you a solitary shoreline, they're a good place to start if your dream beach day involves fewer crowds and more nature.
