In the battle of the slices, pizza lovers in five iconic pizza states are the clear winners

October is National Pizza Month, and DoorDash is giving us a delicious reason to celebrate: the delivery platform just released its first-ever list of America’s 50 Most Popular Local Pizzerias.
To find the country’s top local spots, DoorDash analyzed thousands of customer ratings and reviews from January through September 2025. The result is a data-driven snapshot of the pizza joints people can’t stop ordering from in five of the most iconic pizza states: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan and New York.
These aren’t your big chains or late-night slices grabbed on the go. Every pizzeria on the list has fewer than 10 locations, more than 1,000 customer reviews and some of the highest ratings on DoorDash. They’re neighborhood institutions where every pie tells a story of family recipes, community hustle and a shared love for good dough, cheese and toppings.
The lineup is as diverse as America’s pizza landscape itself. There’s Golden Boy Pizza in California, famous for its clam and garlic square pie; Fino Wood Fired Pizza Bar in Connecticut, where hot honey steals the show; Happy Camper Pizza in Illinois, bringing the party to their spin on the Hawaiian; Greco’s Pizza in Michigan, a BBQ chicken legend; and of course, Joe’s Pizza in New York, a name that needs no introduction.
So, who takes the crown? That depends on your slice loyalty. Is New York’s foldable slice still the GOAT? Does Chicago’s deep dish reign supreme? Or is Detroit-style quietly claiming the throne? Whatever your answer, consider this DoorDash list your ultimate pizza bucket list, and the perfect excuse to celebrate National Pizza Month.
