Time Out editors just revealed their top choices for the most beautiful hotels in the world, and one property in New York City placed fifth overall, making the cut as the most beautiful hotel in the United States.

Ashford Castle, the centuries-old landmark in Ireland, claimed the number one spot, followed by The Hiramatsu Karuizawa Miyota in Japan, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze in Italy and the Jackalope Hotel, Australia. These hotels were chosen for their avant-garde architecture, decadent gardens and eye-popping scenery, but the Fifth Avenue Hotel in Manhattan captured Time Out editors' admiration through sheer personality and theatrical design.

According to Time Out, what sets the Fifth Avenue Hotel apart is its unapologetic embrace of "whimsy-maxxing." The property masterfully balances five-star luxury with playful, camp design choices. Rich jewel tones, tactile fabrics, upholstered headboards and gleaming tile en-suites create an atmosphere that feels both opulently extravagant and surprisingly intimate. Rather than relying on cold minimalism, the design embraces vibrant maximalism without losing the warmth of an oversized luxury home. Adding to the sensory experience is the on-site restaurant, Café Carmellini, where culinary artistry matches the visually striking decor.

The Fifth Avenue Hotel wasn't the only U.S. hotel to capture the editors' attention. California made a strong mark, with the kitschy Madonna Inn coming in at number 15, the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel (a.k.a. the Pink Palace) at number 27 and San Diego's historic Lafayette Hotel at number 29.
